Olive oil (for cooking)
1 medium white onion, finely diced
2 garlic cloves, finely diced
500g ground beef (around 12% fat)
1 tbsp tomato puree
80 ml red wine
500g tomato passata
240 ml beef stock
½ tbsp Worcestershire sauce
½ bunch fresh basil, chopped
½ tsp dried oregano
½ tsp sugar
20g freshly grated Parmesan
200g spaghetti
6 crusty white rolls
100g butter, melted
30g grated Parmesan (for garlic butter)
1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, turned into paste
200g shredded mozzarella
Heat olive oil in a large pan. Sauté the diced onion until golden.
Add garlic and cook for another 1 minute.
Add ground beef and brown well, breaking it apart.
Stir in tomato puree and cook for 1 minute.
Pour in red wine and let it reduce by half.
Add passata, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, basil, oregano, sugar, salt, and pepper.
Simmer 25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
Stir in the Parmesan and remove from heat.
Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
Cut the tops off each roll and gently hollow out the centers.
In a bowl, mix melted butter, garlic paste, parsley, and Parmesan.
Brush this mixture on the inside and outside of each roll.
Place rolls on a baking tray.
Boil spaghetti until al dente.
Transfer directly into the meat sauce and toss until coated.
Spoon the spaghetti mixture generously into each bread bowl.
Add a little extra sauce on top.
Top each bowl with shredded mozzarella.
Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bread is crisp.
Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes to brown the cheese.
Serve warm and enjoy your edible garlic bread pasta bowls!
Choose sturdier rolls so they don’t collapse under the sauce.
For extra garlic flavor, rub the inside of the rolls with a cut garlic clove before adding butter.
Add red pepper flakes to the sauce for a subtle kick.
Try swapping beef for Italian sausage or ground turkey.
