This Honey Garlic Shrimp is quick, sweet, and garlicky—perfect for a weeknight dinner or a flavorful appetizer. In just 10 minutes, you get tender, juicy shrimp glazed in a luscious honey-garlic sauce. Serve it over rice, noodles, or enjoy as-is for a protein-packed treat.
450 g (1 lb) shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 tbsp light soy sauce
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp vegetable oil
3–4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp ginger paste or grated ginger
4 tbsp honey
¼ tsp chili flakes (optional)
2 green onions, sliced, for garnish
Prep the Shrimp:
In a medium bowl, mix soy sauce and cornstarch. Add the shrimp and toss to coat. Set aside. (This “velveting” method keeps shrimp tender and prevents them from drying out.)
Cook the Aromatics:
Heat oil in a non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and ginger, cooking for no longer than 30 seconds until fragrant.
Cook the Shrimp:
Add the shrimp to the pan and cook 1–2 minutes per side, depending on size, until pink and opaque.
Glaze the Shrimp:
Pour in honey and chili flakes (if using), tossing the shrimp to coat evenly. Remove from heat immediately.
Serve:
Sprinkle sliced green onions on top. Serve over steamed rice, noodles, or as a delicious appetizer.
Adjust sweetness: Add more or less honey to taste.
Extra flavor: A splash of soy sauce or a squeeze of lime brightens the dish.
Velveting shortcut: If in a rush, you can skip cornstarch—shrimp will still taste great.
Make it spicy: Increase chili flakes or add a dash of sriracha.
