2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
½ teaspoon onion powder (optional)
½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ cup cooked diced ham
¾ cup cold buttermilk (or regular milk)
1 egg (for egg wash)
Fresh chopped parsley or chives (optional, for garnish)
Preheat Oven
Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
Cut in Butter
Add cold butter cubes and cut into the flour using a pastry cutter or fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with small butter pieces.
Add Milk
Pour in cold buttermilk and gently mix until dough just comes together. Do not overmix.
Shape the Dough
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface and shape into a rough rectangle.
Create Layers (Lamination)
Flatten dough gently and fold into thirds like a letter.
Rotate 90°, flatten again, and fold into thirds.
Repeat 2–3 times to build flaky layers.
Cut Biscuits
Roll dough to about ½-inch (1.5 cm) thick. Cut rounds using a biscuit cutter or glass.
Fill and Assemble
Place half the rounds on baking sheet. Top with shredded cheese and diced ham.
Cover with remaining rounds and gently press edges to seal.
Egg Wash
Beat egg and brush over biscuit tops.
Bake
Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
Serve
Cool slightly. Garnish with parsley or chives and serve warm.
Keep all ingredients cold for maximum flakiness.
Don’t twist the cutter when cutting biscuits—press straight down for better rise.
Use sharp cheddar for stronger flavor.
For extra richness, brush tops with melted butter after baking.
