Ingredients

Scale

For the Pretzel Chicken

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

  • 2 cups coarsely crushed pretzels

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Mustard-Cheddar Sauce

  • ½ cup milk

  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • 1 cup mustard-cheddar sauce (or extra Dijon to taste)

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.

  3. Set up a breading station: place the flour in one bowl, whisk the eggs with Dijon mustard in a second bowl, and add the crushed pretzels to a third bowl.

  4. Dip each chicken breast into the flour, then into the egg mixture, and finally coat thoroughly with crushed pretzels, pressing gently to adhere.

  5. Arrange the coated chicken on the prepared baking sheet.

  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).

  7. While the chicken bakes, heat the milk and Dijon mustard in a small saucepan over medium heat.

  8. Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring constantly until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat.

  9. Let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then serve drizzled with the warm mustard-cheddar sauce.

Notes

  • Crush pretzels coarsely: This gives the chicken extra crunch and texture.

  • Don’t overcrowd the pan: Leave space between chicken pieces for even browning.

  • Extra crispiness: Lightly spray the chicken with cooking spray before baking.

  • Sauce consistency: Add a splash of milk if the sauce becomes too thick.
