This Korean Ground Beef Bowl is a fast, flavorful dinner made with savory ground beef, garlic, ginger, and soy sauce, all served over warm, fluffy rice. It’s simple, budget-friendly, and perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep. With plenty of topping and veggie options, this bowl is easy to customize to your taste.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended for best flavor)

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce or tamari (for gluten-free)

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, minced

  • 2 green onions, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 2 cups cooked rice (jasmine, basmati, or brown rice)

Optional Toppings & Add-Ins

  • Sesame seeds

  • Sliced cucumber

  • Kimchi or pickled vegetables

  • Bell peppers, carrots, broccoli, or spinach

  • Fried egg (for extra richness)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Rice

Cook rice using your preferred method (stovetop, rice cooker, or Instant Pot) until fluffy. Set aside and keep warm.

2. Cook the Ground Beef

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook for 5–7 minutes, breaking it apart, until browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if needed.

3. Add Flavor

Add minced garlic and ginger to the skillet. Cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

4. Season

Stir in soy sauce, sesame oil, and chopped green onions. Season lightly with salt and pepper. Let simmer for 2 minutes so the flavors come together.

5. Assemble the Bowls

Spoon rice into bowls, top with the ground beef mixture, and add any vegetables or toppings you like. Garnish with sesame seeds and extra green onions.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 beef: A little fat adds richness and flavor.

  • Don’t over-salt: Soy sauce already adds saltiness—taste before seasoning more.

  • Add veggies early: Toss spinach or shredded carrots into the beef while it simmers.

  • Meal prep friendly: Store beef and rice separately for up to 4 days in the fridge.

  • Spice it up: Add gochujang or chili flakes for heat.
