Honey BBQ Chicken Rice (Easy One-Pan Dinner Everyone Loves)

Honey BBQ Chicken Rice is a sweet, smoky, and comforting one-pan meal made with juicy chicken, fluffy rice, and a sticky honey BBQ glaze. It’s simple to prepare, full of bold flavor, and perfect for busy weeknights or meal prep. Everything cooks in one skillet, making cleanup quick and easy.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs

  • 1 cup long-grain rice

  • 2 cups chicken broth

  • ½ cup BBQ sauce

  • ¼ cup honey

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1 tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp smoked paprika

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • 1 cup mixed vegetables (optional)

  • Chopped green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season the Chicken
    Season chicken thighs with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.

  2. Sear the Chicken
    Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the chicken for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  3. Make the Sauce
    In a small bowl, mix BBQ sauce and honey until smooth.

  4. Toast the Rice
    In the same skillet, add the uncooked rice and toast for 1–2 minutes, stirring frequently.

  5. Build the Dish
    Pour in the chicken broth and half of the honey BBQ sauce. Stir to combine.

  6. Simmer
    Return the chicken to the pan and pour the remaining sauce over the top. Cover and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes.

  7. Add Vegetables
    Stir in the mixed vegetables, cover again, and cook for another 5 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the chicken is fully cooked.

  8. Rest & Serve
    Remove from heat and let sit for 5 minutes. Garnish with green onions and serve hot.
