These Creamy Gochujang Udon Noodles are bold, cozy, and incredibly satisfying. Chewy udon noodles are tossed in a rich, garlicky, and slightly spicy gochujang cream sauce that comes together in just 15 minutes. It’s the perfect fusion of Korean-inspired flavors with a creamy pasta-style comfort, making it ideal for quick weeknight dinners or late-night cravings.
2 packs frozen udon noodles
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 shallots, finely chopped
1½ tablespoons gochujang
½ cup heavy cream
½ cup reserved noodle water
2 teaspoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon gochugaru (Korean chili flakes)
1 green onion, chopped (for garnish)
Grated parmesan cheese, for topping
1 egg yolk (optional, for serving)
Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the frozen udon noodles according to package instructions.
Reserve ½ cup of noodle water, then drain and rinse noodles under cold water. Set aside.
In a large pan over medium heat, melt the butter.
Add garlic and shallots and sauté until soft and fragrant, about 1–2 minutes.
Stir in the gochujang and cook for 30 seconds to deepen the flavor.
Slowly pour in the heavy cream and reserved noodle water.
Add soy sauce and gochugaru, stirring well.
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and cook for 2–3 minutes, until slightly thickened.
Add the cooked udon noodles to the pan and toss until evenly coated in the creamy gochujang sauce.
Transfer to bowls and top with grated parmesan, green onions, and an egg yolk if using. Serve hot.
Control the Heat: Gochujang varies in spice level—start with less and add more if needed.
Extra Creamy: Add an extra splash of cream or a knob of butter at the end.
Protein Boost: Add shrimp, chicken, tofu, or mushrooms for a heartier meal.
Egg Yolk Magic: Stir the egg yolk into the hot noodles just before eating for extra richness.
No Udon? Thick spaghetti or fresh ramen noodles work well as substitutes.
