Perfect for weekend breakfasts, brunch gatherings, or a fun treat the whole family will love.
4 thick slices white bread (preferably day-old, about 1 inch thick)
2 large eggs (or 3 small eggs)
¼ cup milk
Pinch of salt
¼ cup granulated sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 tablespoons butter, divided
Maple syrup, for serving
Trim the crusts off each bread slice and cut into 9 equal cubes per slice for even cooking.
In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, and salt until smooth.
In a shallow bowl, combine the sugar and cinnamon. Set aside.
Heat ½ tablespoon butter in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until melted.
Dip half of the bread cubes into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off.
Add cubes to the skillet and cook for 2–3 minutes, tossing occasionally, until golden and crispy on all sides.
Immediately transfer the hot cubes to the cinnamon-sugar mixture and toss to coat evenly.
Place on a serving plate.
Add another ½ tablespoon butter to the skillet and repeat with remaining bread cubes.
Serve warm with plenty of maple syrup.
Use day-old bread: It absorbs the egg mixture without getting soggy.
Don’t overcrowd the pan: This ensures crispy edges on every bite.
Extra indulgent: Drizzle with icing, honey, or a cream cheese glaze.
Flavor twist: Add a pinch of nutmeg or vanilla extract to the egg mixture.
Kid-friendly: Serve with toothpicks for easy dipping.
