Air Fryer Onion Rings

Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, these Air Fryer Onion Rings are a healthier alternative to traditional deep-fried onion rings. They’re perfectly seasoned, crunchy, and incredibly easy to make—perfect as an appetizer, snack, or side dish.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt, divided

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 tablespoon water

  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs

  • 1 large sweet onion, sliced into ½-inch rounds and separated into rings

  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  • Prepare Breading Stations

    • In a shallow dish, mix flour, smoked paprika, and ¼ teaspoon salt.

    • In another dish, whisk egg and water.

    • In a third dish, combine panko and remaining ¼ teaspoon salt.

  • Bread the Onion Rings

    • Dredge onion rings in flour mixture, shaking off excess.

    • Dip into egg mixture, letting extra drip off.

    • Coat in panko, pressing gently so crumbs stick.

  • Spray & Arrange
    Lightly coat both sides of breaded onion rings with cooking spray.

  • Air Fry
    Place onion rings in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
    Cook at 375°F (190°C) for 10 minutes, flipping at the 6-minute mark, until golden and crispy.

  • Serve
    Enjoy immediately with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the basket—cook in batches if needed.

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for maximum crunch.

  • Add garlic powder, onion powder, or cayenne pepper for extra flavor.

  • Reheat leftovers in the air fryer at 350°F for 3–4 minutes.
